Thrift Store

The American Rescue Workers operates a Thrift Store at 923 5th Street, Canton, Ohio. Items are donated and then priced for resale at the store. All proceeds are redistributed back into the ministry to supply revenue for the shelters and the ongoing operations. One of the few local organizations that will still pick up donations with its own truck, the American Rescue Workers asks that donors please be mindful that donated items must be re-sellable and reusable. With the rising costs of gasoline and the regular maintenance involved in operating a vehicle, the American Rescue Workers has to pay for the transporting of items even if they are freely donated. In compliance with the laws of Ohio, the organization also must purchase sprays and tags to treat items such as upholstered furniture, pillows and stuffed animals. The American Rescue Workers simply cannot afford to be used as someone's free disposal service.

While the organization makes every effort to recycle as many of its collected items and products as possible, the American Rescue Workers has to pay the landfill for those unusable donations that it receives. Garbage runs are extremely costly to the organization. To be good stewards of the financial donations received, the American Rescue Workers declines items that will be deemed as unfit for its purposes and cost the organization for disposal. Donors need to be aware of these facts and understand when a driver refuses an item because he knows it does not meet out standards for pick-up.

Although the American Rescue Workers' Canton Thrift Store is designed specifically for low-income individuals, families and those in serious needs, the bargain shopper can find many great buys there as well. The Thrift Store offers clothing and accessories, household goods, furniture, both large and small appliances, vintage items and antiques, and all sorts of other unique finds at affordable prices.
